Roan Mountain Hike, October 2010

Last month my husband and I hiked another section of the Appalachian Trail. There were a total of nine of us in our group and the weather was gorgeous.

We started early Friday morning at Bear Branch Road (19E) near Buladean, NC. We had a killer ascent that first day of about 2500 feet over a span of 5 miles. The first day we hiked a total of 10.9 miles and spent the night at Stan Murray Shelter. Day two we covered 11.1 miles and camped at Clyde Smith Shelter. On Sunday we finished up with a six mile hike to Iron Mountain Gap.

Sometimes it is easy to forget how beautiful the state of North Carolina is. One look at one of these vistas changes all of that.
